Dear Family,

For the next while, our focus in math with be exploring, sorting, and building with shapes.

We will be building structures in class with 3-dimensional shapes.  We would appreciate if you could send a collection of shapes with your child on Monday or Tuesday if possible.  Some examples are empty boxes (Kleenex boxes, shoe boxes, cereal boxes), cardboard tubes (toilet paper or paper towel rolls), clean empty cans, cone-shaped birthday hats, etc.

If you have extra of these shapes and your child wishes to bring them to school to share with classmates, that would be wonderful.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are sending home your child’s sound book.  We have worked on each of the sounds individually and are now done the book.  Please review each of the sounds with your child on a regular basis to aid in their reading.  Sounding out words is one of the strategies they should be using to read new words.  Some activities that can be done with this book are:

  • Show you child the letter and ask them to make the sound
  • Make the sound and ask your child to tell you the letter that matches the sound
  • Think of words out loud that begin with each sound
  • Write words that begin with each sound

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning.

Language Letter To Parents Of Students-Speeches And Effective Speaking

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On *Insert Date* we will begin presenting speeches in class.  This is a school-wide effort to encourage effective speaking.  Our students have been working on their speeches for the past week in class.  However, due to the limited amount of class time, we feel it is necessary for the students to revise, edit and practice their speeches at home as well.  Speeches should be within 1-2 minutes long as they will be timed when presented.  We ask that you take the time to assist your child in rewriting and adding ideas to ensure that their speech is comprehensible and that it flows.  Please ensure that your child practices their speech over the weekend in order for them to feel comfortable and to strive to reach the time limit.  Once the speeches are read, 3 students will be chosen from each class to read their speech to the students in the primary division (grades 1-3) on *Insert Date* in the gym.  Each student will receive a certificate for their participation.

We thank you for your continued support and co-operation.

Sincerely,
